A few questions about weapons - Guild Wars Forums

Hey there, I need some clarification about weapons in this game.

First off, I know that there was an update to staves a few years back but what I'd like to know is, what were the changes? Current max staves come with +10 energy and a HSR (20%), was it different in pre-nerf staves?

Secondly, I know that currently, only swords, shields and foci can drop max with a requirement of 8. Can max q8's drop for other weapons? Could they in the past? What about q7?

Lastly, I hope to get a 20/20 healing wand and a 40/20 protection staff for my monk and I've heard that the above is impossible for some Tyrian and canthan weapon skins. Are there any Tyrian/Canthan skins (excluding the crafted weapons and zodiac weapons) that can make the above weapon sets?

q7's dont drop anymore

Try looking through one of the following wiki pages for what weapons you're looking for. Dunshek's Purifier and Jayne's Staff are probably what you're looking for -- each of these item pages include instructions on how to replicate the stats for each weapon. (edit: Kepkhet's Refuge is probably easier to get your hands on.)

If you just want 20/20 staves and don't mind that they're not max, the crafter in Seitung Harbor makes a wide variety for 750g a piece. That's where I outfit all my caster heroes.

I personally don't find the non-max stats a problem. It's not much of a difference between +6 and +10 energy, and I certainly don't expect them to rely on wanding damage.

If I recall, staves used to come with HSR 10% (max) or perhaps some only came with HSR10%. Now they all come with HSR 20%. (Max - it can still be less than 20%, particularly on blue and purple versions)

Yes you can. A 40/20 staff is basically a staff with an Adept staff head and either an inherent HCT 20% or an Aptitude Not Attitude inscription. All staffs can take an Adept staff head, but of course, you need a staff with the proper attribute.
